N-acetylcysteine (NAC)

N-acetylcysteine is a derivative of the sulphur-containing proteinogenic amino acid cysteine. The acetyl group makes it more stable and more soluble than the free amino acid. NAC is one of the most frequently investigated amino acid derivatives and is established in both pharmaceutical and nutritional applications. It is characterized by its content of a reactive thiol group, which gives it special chemical properties.
