Produced by hydrolysis of vegetable oils and fats.
Glycerine is a trivalent sugar alcohol that is a by-product of the saponification of vegetable oils or is obtained specifically through hydrolysis. Due to its highly hygroscopic properties, it binds water and thus helps to regulate moisture in cosmetic formulations. In lubricants, creams and lotions, glycerine serves as a moisturizer that stabilizes the texture and makes the skin feel smooth.
