Cobalamin, better known as vitamin B12, is a water-soluble vitamin that structurally belongs to the corrinoids. It is obtained industrially by fermentation with special microorganisms and then provided in stable salt forms such as cyanocobalamin, methylcobalamin or hydroxocobalamin. These standardized variants differ in terms of stability and solubility, but also serve as clearly defined sources of vitamin B12 in food supplements.
